March Open thread 2025

Ah, at last good bye February and March it is.    Come join us for awhile, we're a good group.  Some of us dabble in writing or art or both.  Some of us just drink coffee or tea and stay awhile.

There's nothing like that first sip in the morning  before
starting on the project.  Creativity is everywhere, all around us.

Dare to dream,  make it happen. Let the creativity
flow through you onto the screen, the canvas, maybe you are
the crafty type.

Don't forget those breaks in between to come back afresh
to get back to your project, stronger, thinking critically how to solve
a problem never thought before.

Those paintings and images tell a story.   They say have more than a few words
 to describe

Don't just think about it, just write it, paint it. Your creation.

Characters that make a story strong.
It is your story, your creation.

Spring and daylight savings is just around the corner.
So who is saving up the daylight I would like to know.

Remember, make it a great day, always!

Words & Brush Recipe Corner: ALLISON'S UTTERLY DELICIOUS SALMON

ALLISON'S UTTERLY DELICIOUS SALMON

Recipe from Allison, a friend of Lisa Starr

www.lisa-starr.com

Ingredients:

4 skinless salmon fillets
1 ½ tablespoons dark or light brown sugar
1 teaspoon Maldon salt plus more to serve
1 teaspoon mustard powder OR curry powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (notes)
½ teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
2 to 3 tablespoons olive oil

Directions:
1: Preheat the oven to 200 C, pat the salmon fillets dry with a paper towel and place in an ovenproof baking dish.
2: Combine all ingredients apart from the olive oil, sprinkle over the fillets and press gently to coat the tops, sides and base. Increase quantities of rub if fish fillets are large or for added flavor. Drizzle over olive oil.
3: Place in the preheated oven and cook uncovered for 12 - 14 minutes until it is just cooked in the center and flakes easily. Let the salmon rest for 5 minutes then sprinkle lightly with salt and serve.

COOK'S NOTES: Salmon can be rubbed with spices ahead of time. I used this quantity of spices on just two fillets as I like flavorful food. Smoked paprika is easily available at any spice shop - and in the Ta'am V'Reich range in supermarkets - and is definitely worth seeking out as it adds wonderful dimension. This dish can also be prepared in the airfryer and cooked for 7-9 minutes.

ENJOY !
